The exhibition will be open from Tuesday until Friday 11:30-18:00 and Saturday 12:00-16:00 until Saturday 4 May 2019, with free entrance.
Also, on the opening night there will be a performance at 21:30 by Elli Griva + video art by Fanis Logothetis.
Due to Greek Easter Holydays the gallery will remain closed on the following dates 25,26,27 and 30/04/2019.
The curator ask a profound question: what is the invisible link between the work of Joseph Beuys “How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare” and Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” in the Cappella Sistina and the prehistoric man that left his imprint on the cave of Lascaux; the answer can be; the ritual action through wich men attempt to create a narration in order to explain the world.
This way the artist can return to his original practice, as the magician, the shaman, the medium between people and God, creating objects of worship with the sole purpose to please or communicate with the world of the Gods.
The curator Nikos Giavropoulos asks the artists to make their own ‘Holly Grail” and create – through their work – their own scenario for the interpretation of the world.
The exhibition includes works that deal among others with the following antithetical meanings:
· Artist – Magician / Shaman
· Artwork – Sacred Object
· Art – Propaganda
· Divine – Sacrilege
· Holiness – Bribing
· Sacred – Blasphemous
· Vandalism – Superstition
· Icon painting as unique – Worship of mass produced images of Artworks
· Human Body – Fetish
As a result, this exhibition is a coexistence of all different kind of media artworks, performance, video art, ready-made objects, experiential narrations, with common ground the relationship between the creator and the artwork, we urge the visitor to translate using his own personal criteria the borderline between an object of worship and worthlessness.
