«The Project Gallery» and the Hellenic Community of Sicily “Trinacria” presents the group exhibition entitled: “Canone Doppio” curated by Francesco Piazza. With the kind support of the Italian Educational Institute of Athens, Tempo Forte and under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens.
As the curator of the exhibition notes:
Double Canon for String Quartet is a composition by Igor Fedorovič Stravinsky written in 1959, in memory of the painter Raoul Dufy.
In this short composition, of only 20 bars, that lasts just over a minute, Stravinsky chooses a series of twelve notes with a symmetrical character that give rise to canons played with two violins that repeat the series of twelve sounds twice.
The second canon is performed by a viola and a cello that are added to the violins, creating a complex contrapuntal plot.
